Turnstone
The performance Turnstone is part of a project by Sibylle Eimermacher, wherein she traces back the routes of glacial erratic rocks found in the Netherlands back to their places of origin in Scandinavia. A reflection on longing and belonging on a personal, landscape and cosmic level. Erratic rocks as representatives of a migratory, homeless state of being, complementary can support feelings of interconnectedness, an undeniable presence and surrender to the universal condition of constant change.
Loom is a sound instrument with two aluminium chimes tuned 7.83 Hertz apart, the basic frequency of the Schumann resonance. This resonance - named after physicist Winfried Otto Schumann - is caused by lightning discharges in the atmosphere, that propagate between the ionosphere and the Earth’s surface and remain trapped as standing waves. It is also called the heartbeat of the Earth. A small piece of erratic rock is integrated in the instruments frame, linking the planetary resonance with earthly matter. The soundperformance can be understood as a dialogue with the altosax, that gives voice to the human breath.
By Sibylle Eimermacher ('Loom') and Johannes Eimermacher (alto saxophone).
